‘That’s Incorrect, Sir!’ CNN’s Boris Sanchez Brawls with House Republican in Epic Throwdown Over Hunter Biden Testimony
Boris Sanchez locked horns with Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) for what seemed like an eternity on Wednesday’s CNN News Central.
At issue was Hunter Biden’s closed-door testimony on Wednesday before the House Oversight Committee, which is investigating his business dealings and whether President Joe Biden illicitly benefitted from them.
Republicans on the committee have suggested that as vice president, the elder Biden traded political favors for foreign actors in exchange for bribes that were funneled through the younger Biden’s business. However, a key witness in the Republicans’ case was indicted this month for lying to the FBI. The Department of Justice alleges Alexander Smirnov, an ex-informant for the Bureau, passed on false information accusing the Bidens of receiving $5 million each as a payoff from a Ukrainian energy company.
Nevertheless, the committee is pressing on with its probe into the Bidens. Republicans are particularly interested in $20 million that went to Hunter Biden and his associates.
“If he had the qualifications, what did he produce?” Burchett told Sanchez. “What did that $20 million, in fact, bring in that flowed through his family through the Chinese communists and others?”
Sanchez pushed back.
“I’m curious about the $20 million, sir, because the actual bank records show that $15 million of that money actually went to Biden family associates, not the Biden family,” the host said. “But I’m curious – specifically – how much of that money you’re alleging went to Vice President Joe Biden back when he was in the White House?”
Burchett responded by pointing to the number of “shell corporations” Hunter Biden and his associates used. The lawmaker and the host then wrangled over a loan Joe Biden gave his brother James Biden for $200,000 and a smaller loan Joe Biden gave Hunter to buy a pickup truck. Burchett claimed Hunter Biden doing business off his family name implicated his father. Sanchez objected, leading to this exchange:
SANCHEZ: Pardon me, sir. There’s a huge distinction, there’s a huge distinction between whether it’s appropriate for the family of a president to make money off of his name and whether that’s ethical. But the question is specifically about what Joe Biden did when he was in office [as] vice president, whether he abused his power or whether he enriched his family members. And right now, there is zero evidence coming from the Oversight Committee that when he was vice president, he did either of those things.
BURCHETT: There’s $20 million that flowed through. You saw these accounts –
SANCHEZ: That’s incorrect, sir! Bank records don’t reflect that.
[CROSSTALK]
SANCHEZ: They don’t say that Joe Biden got any money from them. Have you read the bank records?! Because they don’t list Joe Biden’s name. I’m not gonna let you say things that are untrue, sir.
BURCHETT: So, sir, the truth is, is that $20 million flowed through this family, whichever way it went. There’s no records of taxes being paid–
SANCHEZ: Sir, again –

After the exchange, Sanchez and Burchett parted on amicable terms, with the congressman stating that both could forgo their therapy sessions this week.
