GOP Rep. Tim Burchett Blames ‘DEI’ Secret Service For Trump’s Shooting on Fox News
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) blamed the “diversity, equity, and inclusion” head of the Secret Service for the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.
Burchett, along with other Republicans, has slammed the Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle for the reaction to the attack on the former president that left one rally attendee dead and two others injured. The GOP lawmaker labeled Cheatle a “DEI” appointee and suggested she was unfit for her job.
On Saturday, Thomas Crooks shot at Trump from a rooftop near a rally in Pennsylvania, injuring the former president’s right ear. Secret Service snipers immediately responded by eliminating the shooter while agents tackled Trump.
The Secret Service has faced criticism after reports surfaced that law enforcement had been warned by rally attendees that Crooks was climbing a roof with a rifle.
In a Sunday appearance on Fox News, Burchett shared his thoughts:
You know, it just everything you all mentioned about the rooftop. I’ve talked to a marine sniper today, SEAL sniper, former CIA operator, and they all said the same thing. How the hell did he get on top of that roof? If you look at the pictures, he didn’t go through the top of the roof. There had to be a ladder or something. Somebody really dropped the ball.
You’ve got a DEI, basically, a DEI initiative person who heads up our Secret Service. You know, she was working at Pepsi before this. I know she was, former CIA, Secret Service agent, but still, this is what happens when you don’t put the best players, and it’s a complete failure on our part. And, as I talked to Chairman Comer last night, I stressed with him. You know, everybody wants to follow the rules. We’ve got a 70, 72 hour rule before we have a, you know, can go a hearing…We need to get to Washington. You know, to hell with the convention. We’ve got to get find out what went on. Make sure that it never happens again.
