Pete Hegseth argued in his 2020 book that Christians should unite in a “crusade” against Muslims entering the United States to protect “Judeo-Christian” values, according to a new report on his past writings.

Earlier this week, President-elect Donald Trump nominated the Fox News morning show co-host and Army veteran to lead the Department of Defense, leading to shock amongst experts in national security circles.

Trump’s decision to nominate Hegseth, 44, suggests the president-elect intends to make good on his promise to end what he calls “wokeism” in the military. The move also indicates Trump may bring back a travel ban that included many Muslim-majority nations in the Middle East.

According to the Washington Post, Hegseth in his 2020 book “American Crusade” ranted about the dangers of increasing Muslim birth rates and claimed migrants leech off of social programs supported by the government. He also said Islam “is not a religion of peace, and it never has been” and that “all modern Muslim countries are either formal or de facto no-go zones for practicing Christians and Jews.”

Per the Post:

Though insulated by distance and its “traditional Christian fabric,” the United States, Hegseth writes, is under a cultural invasion “not just at our shore, it’s in your community and schools.” In November 2019, his book states, 26 Muslim candidates won elected office in the country, and “Muhammad is now a top ten boys’ name in America.”

“Our present moment is much like the 11th Century. We don’t want to fight, but, like our fellow Christians one thousand years ago, we must,” he writes. “Arm yourself — metaphorically, intellectually, physically. Our fight is not with guns. Yet.”

He concluded by arguing that fundamental followers of Islam plan to “conquer” Europe and America via demographics and culture to destroy “our nation’s Judeo-Christian institutions.”
