George Conway, the anti-Trump activist and ex-husband of Kellyanne Conway, attacked the sister of a dead soldier brought up in The Atlantic‘s bombshell story about Trump’s private comments on Wednesday.

According to The Atlantic, then-President Donald Trump offered to pay for the funeral of Private Vanessa Guillén in 2020, but later went on a rampage after after he received a $60,000 bill for it, telling staff that “It doesn’t cost 60,000 bucks to bury a fucking Mexican!” and instructing them not to pay it.

“Fucking people, trying to rip me off,” he allegedly fumed.

While many took the story at face value, Guillén’s family has not.

In a quote-tweet of the The Atlantic story, the deceased sister, Mayra Guillén, wrote “Wow.
I don’t appreciate how you are exploiting my sister’s death for politics- hurtful & disrespectful to the important changes she made for service members. President Donald Trump did nothing but show respect to my family & Vanessa. In fact, I voted for President Trump today.”

Conway felt compelled to respond.

“No one is exploiting your sister’s death here. This is isn’t about her,” he told Guillén. “It’s about Trump’s sociopathic behavior.”

“He displays it publicly and privately, and his contempt for anyone else’s lives—including those of men and women in uniform who made the ultimate sacrifice—is apparent to anyone who chooses, unlike you, to open their eyes,” added Conway.

Trump has denied having made the comments attributed to him. The Atlantic says its allegations are based on the accounts of “attendees” of the meeting in which he launched into the rant and “contemporaneous notes of the meeting taken by a participant.”
