Conservative Writer Jonah Goldberg Refuses to Vote For Trump: Conduct ‘Inherently Disqualifying’
Conservative writer Jonah Goldberg explained in his latest column that he is refusing to vote for Donald Trump because his actions are “inherently disqualifying” for the presidency.
Goldberg notes in a Wednesday column posted to The Dispatch that he will likely not vote in the upcoming election because Kamala Harris will carry Washington, D.C. by a comfortable margin. However, the political commentator added he would vote for Harris if he lived in a swing state only “as a way to vote against” Trump.
He added that Harris is not a compelling candidate or vice president and is “exceedingly wrong on a number of issues.”
Goldberg then wrote that he could never bring himself to vote for Trump because of his actions on Jan. 6, 2021, that disrupted the peaceful transfer of power.
“Trump is simply unacceptable. The mere fact that he violated the American tradition of the peaceful transfer of power is inherently disqualifying. All of the other reasons—and there are many—amount to shoving another 10 pounds of manure into a 5-pound bag,” he wrote.
Goldberg continued, “Breaking this stranglehold Trump has on the party is worth a conventionally bad Democratic president for four years, particularly given the fact that Harris will have a hard time getting much through Congress, never mind anything catastrophic.”
He claimed a Harris presidency would could help boost a post-Trump party because regardless if she is a moderately failed president or successful one it will force her to move towards the middle.
“A conservative, we are told, is not a conservative if they don’t vote for Trump. Nonsense. I won’t vote for him because I am a conservative, and I think this country needs a healthy and sane conservatism,” Goldberg concluded.
