‘Can You Protect Women and Assault Them At the Same Time?!’ The View Absolutely Tees Off on Trump’s ‘Like It Or Not’ Comments

ABC’s The View used their second segment of Thursday’s show to rip former President Donald Trump’s latest comments about women and how he said he would “protect” them whether “the women like it not.”

After co-host Whoopi Goldberg introduced the clip and played it for the audience, Joy Behar chimed in with a burning question:

Goldberg: When you say “whether you like it or not” tells women a lot about who you are and why they’re going to stay away from you. See, because with you clearly “no” doesn’t mean “no.” “Whether you like it or not” means “I’m going to do it whether you want it or not.” That’s not the message you want to send women, right now.

Behar: And I have a question. I have a question.

Goldberg: I might have an answer.

Behar: It’s like a technical question.

Goldberg: Okay.

Behar: Can you protect women and assault them at the same time?

It’s a relevant question — Trump famously said to Access Hollywood‘s Billy Bush in 2005 that he would “start kissing” women and “Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.” In the same interview he said: “Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.”

And as co-host Sunny Hostin pointed out, Trump was found liable for sexually abusing E. Jean Carroll. Several other women have also come forward accusing Trump of sexual assault. Trump has also bragged about his role in the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, which ended the constitutional right to an abortion after 50 years. Hostin continued:

And so when you think about that, that’s the guy that’s going to protect women? That’s the guy who’s going to protect women’s rights? I mean, does he think that women are so unsophisticated that we don’t know what he’s saying?
