Weekend Update Pillories Deion Sanders After His Colorado Team Blows 29-0 Lead: ‘I Went Home and Fell Asleep’ at Halftime!

One day after his Colorado team blew a 29-0 lead to Stanford at home, coach Deion Sanders got lampooned on Saturday Night Live.

Coach Prime got the Weekend Update treatment on Saturday — with Kenan Thompson portraying him opposite Colin Jost. After Jost brought up Friday night’s blown Colorado lead, the Sanders character shook it off with aplomb.

“Wasn’t that crazy?” Thompson said. “We were up 29 to nothing at the half. Yeah. So I went home and fell asleep! I woke up this morning shocked as anyone.”

He then challenged Jost, saying, “Come on, man, nobody’s perfect. Name one team that’s undefeated.

Jost proceeded to name nine.

“Some teams might have a better record, but we’re getting paid!” Thompson said. “NIL (name, image and likeness) deals, baby!”

Thompson then referenced a 1995 appearance from the actual Sanders on SNL as musical guest and once again challenged Jost to name a better musical guest. Jost instantly rattled off six music icons.

“Okay, but after them, and like, maybe the next 300, it’s prime time, baby!”
