Colin Jost Takes Shots at Fox News, Newsmax, and NY Post in WCHD Monologue — Lays Off CNN, MSNBC and Most Others
Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost went after Fox News, Newsmax and the New York Post during his monologue at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday night — while laying off CNN, MSNBC, and most other outlets.
In his 20-minute set, Jost largely focused on roasting the politicians in attendance, but did take a few shots at the media — including one notable swipe at Fox News.
“Fox News is here tonight,” Jost said. “It’s the end of an era. Rupert Murdoch stepped down at Fox News, which is strange. I didn’t think there was a step down from Fox News.”
Another Murdoch-owned property — the New York Post — actually drew most of Jost’s focus on Saturday night.
“The New York Post is like having The New York Times summarized for you by a crackhead,” Jost quipped. “The Times will say, ‘a border deal continues to evade Congress,’ and the Post is like, ‘these Mexicans are taking my stuff!'”
Other outlets were singled out, but those barbs were lighter. Of CSPAN, Jost said, “This event is being televised live on CSPAN. And if you’re at home watching CSPAN on a Saturday night, I hope they find your body soon.” Of the Washington Post, the comic said, “they were the ones taking your coats at the door.” And Jost also added, “Wordle is here tonight. Sorry, sorry. I meant The New York Times.”
And there were a few broader jabs at the press.
“There are so many incredible news organizations here tonight,” Jost said. “Also a few credible ones.”
As he wrapped up his monologue, Jost tossed in a parting shot at Newsmax — before turning serious and saluting the press for their work.
“Decency is how we’re able to make jokes about each other, and one of us doesn’t go to prison after,” Jost said. “We go to the Newsmax after party.
“And when you look at the levels of freedom throughout history and even around the world today, this is the exception. This freedom is incredibly rare, and the journalists in this room help protect that freedom, and we cannot ever take that for granted.”
