Trump Says America Is ‘Like a Garbage Can’ Because of Immigrants

Former President Donald Trump likened the United States to “a garbage can” during a rally in Arizona on Thursday.

Speaking in Tempe, Trump railed against Vice President Kamala Harris and the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the southern border and immigration in general.

“When Kamala came in, she deliberately dismantled our border and threw open the gates,” he said. “She threw them open, the gates to an invasion of criminal migrants from prisons and jails, from insane asylums and mental institutions from all over the world, from Venezuela to the Congo in Africa.”

Trump has repeatedly claimed other countries are releasing prisoners from their jails and sending them to the U.S. However, there is no basis for his charge.

“We’re a dumping ground,” he went on. “We’re like a garbage can for the world. That’s what’s happened. That’s what’s happened to our– we’re like a garbage can. You know, it’s the first time I ever said that. And every time I come up and talk about what they’ve done to our country, I get angrier and angrier. First time I’ve ever said ‘garbage can.’ But you know what? It’s a very accurate description.”

The former president went on to claim Harris “forced” Border Patrol agents to “facilitate her wicked betrayal of America.” He followed that up by noting the Border Patrol union endorsed him.

“I want to thank them,” he added. “And they, at the same time, they said she is so bad, she’s the worst. You can’t have her. And they don’t wanna do that.”

Trump has pledged to deport all immigrants who are in the country illegally. He has also said he would deport those who are here legally under Temporary Protected Status. Specifically, he cited Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio.

“It’s terrible to say and it’s a tough thing to do,” Trump told cheering rally-goers last month. He added that the Haitians “destroyed” Springfield. During last month’s presidential debate, Trump falsely accused the Haitians of eating people’s pets.
