Fox Host Gives Biden ‘Credit’ For TikTok Position: ‘He’s on the Right Side of This Issue’
Fox Business anchor Larry Kudlow offered some “credit” to President Joe Biden over his pledge to sign a TikTok ban if such legislation lands on his desk.
Kudlow was joined by Fox News anchor Brian Kilmeade on Thursday to discuss the House voting on a bill that would force the Chinese-owned ByteDance to divest from the social media app TikTok. All House Republicans voted for the bill, and they were joined by 37 Democrats.
Kilmeade got into a fiery exchange with Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) about the bill, with Paul at one point accusing Kilmeade of lying for saying the app was owned by the Chinese government. Paul repeatedly said the leadership of the app is made up of a number of international investors and thousands of Americans will lose incomes if the app is shut down. Kilmeade pressed the senator about the app’s algorithms and how they could be influenced by China.
“Rand Paul is a friend and a real smart guy. Most of the time I agree with him, but I just don’t understand his point this time,” Kudlow told Kilmeade about their debate.
Both agreed the app poses a national security threat, something the FBI has warned Congress about.
“Make it a U.S. company,” Kudlow said.
“But if they don’t sell it, it dies,” Kilmeade said.
“It will, but we’ve got to protect ourselves. You have all these guys saying it’s a national security risk. They’re not wrong. They’re correct. I mean, I’ll give Biden — I’ll give Biden some credit on this. He’s on the right side of this issue,” Kudlow said.
Kilmeade pushed back on the Biden praise, blasting the president for allowing his campaign to be on TikTok, pointing to a TikTok Super Bowl ad as problematic in light of concerns.
“I’ll give him half a credit for it,” Kudlow conceded. “He might’ve forgotten about the ad. That’s a joke!”
