A Fox Business guest redefined what it means to be “pro-choice” by using the term to describe former President Donald Trump.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee announced on Monday that abortion policy should be decided by states and not the federal government. Some conservatives, such as Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) panned the announcement. Graham supports a nationwide ban on the procedure. Others, however, praised the move as politically savvy.
That includes radio host Mark Simone, who appeared on Tuesday’s Kudlow on Fox Business.
Host Larry Kudlow noted that just hours before, Arizona’s Supreme Court reinstated a 1901 abortion ban – save for the life of the mother – that can be traced back to 1864. The state’s Democratic attorney general has vowed not to enforce the “draconian” measure.
“This is the big story,” Kudlow said. “It’s at the top of all the websites around the country. What say you?”
“This’ll dominate the news for days because they think it’ll hurt Donald Trump,” Simone said. “This issue does not hurt Donald Trump. He’s not against abortion. He is actually ok with abortion.”
Trump has said repeatedly he is not “ok with abortion” and has proudly boasted of appointing three justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to abortion.
Simone then cited Trump’s previous remarks suggesting he would back a nationwide 15-week abortion ban.
“He wants that 15-week limit – perfectly reasonable,” he said, prompting Kudlow to interject.
“Woah, wait, he didn’t say 15 weeks,” the host said. “That’s not quoting him. Yesterday, he had a different take. He didn’t say 15 weeks. He said let the states decide, a point I happen to agree with by the way, wholeheartedly. But I can’t pin 15 weeks on him ’cause it’s not what he said.”
Simone responded by bizarrely claiming that Trump is “pro-choice.”
“Ok, but that makes him the pro-choice candidate,” he falsely claimed, implying “pro-choice” is something other than allowing individuals to decide. “Leave it up to the states. Let them choose. Let them do what they want.”
