‘She’s a Lizard Person’: Libs of TikTok Founder Melts Down After Tense Interview with Taylor Lorenz

Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz dropped an interview with Libs of TikTok founder Chaya Raichik over the weekend that appeared to strike a nerve, as Raichik took to X to insult Lorenz after their hour-long sitdown.

In the viral interview, the pair discussed a wide range of issues, as Raichik wore a t-shirt with a photo of Lorenz from an old interview in which she broke down into tears.

Following the release of the interview, Raichik wrote on X, “Just to summarize my interview with Taylor Lorenz,” adding:

– she’s not at all concerned about our open border and millions of people invading our country
– she’s pro mutilation and castration of minors
– she wants p*rn in schools
– she wants the media to be allowed to defame me with impunity
– she wants me to be responsible for all reactions, comments, and actions that happen after I post a tiktok but doesn’t want to take responsibility for what happens after her reporting on me
– she’s a lizard person
– she’s scared of people knowing her age
– she’s still wearing a mask outdoors in 2024

Raichik has become an influential figure in right-wing circles in recent years for sharing clips attacking the LGBTQ community. Her online activism has been linked to bomb threats against children’s hospitals, which she has boasted about, and the furthering of conspiracy theories like viral claims that schools were allowing litter boxes in classrooms for kids who identified as animals.

In her article following the interview, Lorenz wrote, “Raichik, who operates the social media account Libs of TikTok, has amassed an audience of millions on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, largely by targeting LGBTQ+ people.” She continued:

Last month, Raichik was appointed to the Oklahoma Library Media Advisory Committee by Republican schools superintendent Ryan Walters, a former history teacher who has been called “the state’s top culture warrior” for his opposition to teachers unions and other conservative targets, including LGBTQ+ students’ rights.

Raichik and Lorenz spoke in the wake of a 16-year-old non-binary student in Tulsa dying after being attacked in a school bathroom, following weeks of bullying that critics have slammed school officials for refusing to stop.

At one point in their interview, Lorenz asked Raichik about a post that supported eradicating transgenderism.

“If you eradicate transgenderism, which I believe you suggested in a post today –” said Lorenz.

“No, I never said that,” Raichik shot back.

“Oh, OK, you reposted a post that was advocating for that. What would happen to the people that have already medically, socially completely transitioned, and are leading happy lives? What would happen to them? I mean, what’s your plan for that? If transgenderism doesn’t exist, which it seems like you’re — that’s what you believe. What happens to all the people living happy lives as trans people?” Lorenz followed up.

“Well, first of all, the whole trans, it’s based on a lie. You can’t change your… you can’t change your gender,” Raichik replied, adding, “So… they could, they could, go live their life. I mean, I can’t tell someone what to do in their house.”

“It sounds like you do want to tell people what to do in their house,” said Lorenz.

“I never said that,” Raichik replied.

“So you’re totally OK with people being trans, just not as long as they’re in public?” Lorenz pressed.

“No, I never said that. They could… the whole thing is based off of a lie, and I think that this lie cannot be mainstream in our society. It’s just… it’s a lie,” Raichik replied in the tense exchange.

“And what harm is it causing, do you believe?” Lorenz added.

Raichik replied, “Um, I like the truth. I like truth.”

“Right, but I’m saying, what’s the harm of people expressing their gender identity differently than you believe it to be? What harm are they causing?” Lorenz followed up.

“Like I said, we are a nation of truth and I seek the truth,” repeated Raichik.

Lorenz also pressed Raichik on having wrongly identified a trans woman as the Uvalde Elementary School shooter. “The Uvalde shooter wasn’t trans, is there a law against lying? They’re knowingly lying about me,” Raichik said after Lorenz pressed her on why she never took down the inaccurate tweet.
