Jon Karl Warns of ‘Really Tough Night’ for Democrats in Senate: ‘In Real Trouble’

ABC News chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl broke down a “really tough night” for Democrats in the Senate on Tuesday, warning that the party’s prospects did not look good and that one veteran senator was “in real trouble.”

“Really tough night it’s shaping up to be for Democrats in the Senate,” observed Karl on ABC News, Tuesday evening. “I mean, the Democrats talked about two seats that they thought they really had a chance, you know, a chance to pick up. Florida, Texas, neither one of those looks good.”

He continued, “Sherrod Brown, they thought they were gonna keep. Looks like he’s in real trouble. Tough for Democrats in the Senate.”

As of reporting, with 85% of votes counted, Fox News declared Republican challenger Bernie Moreno the winner of the race against Brown – who has served in the Senate since 2007 – by nearly 5%, or around 245,962 votes.

In Florida, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) kept his seat, beating Democratic challenger Debbie Mucarsel-Powell by nearly 1.5 million votes, while in Texas, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-FL) beat Democratic challenger Colin Allred, according to projections, by a margin of nearly 10%.

Reacting to the national results pour in on Tuesday evening, New York Times chief analyst and pollster Nate Cohn said it was a “tall order” for Vice President Kamala Harris to win the states necessary to defeat former President Donald Trump, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
