Fox News’ Jonathan Turley Says Dems Would Defend Hunter Biden Even If He Pulled Out the ‘Severed Head of Viktor Shokin’

Fox News contributor and legal commentator Jonathan Turley mocked Democrats for continuing to defend Hunter Biden amidst his deposition before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday, arguing that they would do so even if he produced the “severed head of Viktor Shokin.”

Shokin is the former prosecutor general of Ukraine who was forced out of office in 2016 over allegations of corruption. Then-Vice President Joe Biden had urged the Ukrainian government to get rid of Shokin, leading many of Biden’s political opponents to speculate that Biden was doing so on behalf of his son Hunter, who sat on the board of Burisma, an energy company supposedly under investigation by Shokin.

While Burisma was investigated by Shokin’s office, that investigation was dormant at the time that the elder Biden urged Ukraine to get rid of Shokin, who had been identified as corrupt by the U.S. and its allies.

In his appearance on America Reports Wednesday, Turley ripped House Democrats for preemptively declaring victory before the younger Biden was done testifying.

After being asked if anyone should believe Hunter Biden’s claim that his father was not involved in any of his business activities, Turley said that observers should pay careful attention to the phrasing he used in an opening statement made public by his team.

“Well you’ll notice he does not say that my father did not know about my business activities as he was flying on Air Force Two, for example,” said Turley. “He has previously contradicted his father, who maintained throughout the campaign that he had no knowledge of his son’s business dealings. Most of us believe that is now patently false, but you’ll notice the nuanced language in all of this.”

Then he pivoted to House Democrats, arguing that “the Democrats did a disservice to themselves by coming out too quickly. You know, they came out in about an hour after the deposition had started after Hunter Biden read that statement. So he had barely cleared his throat when they came out and said, ‘Okay, well, there’s nothing here.'”

“And it left a lot of us sort of chuckling,” continued Turley. “It made it seem like he could pull out the severed head of Viktor Shokin and they would still say, ‘Well, thank you for being so forthcoming. I think we can move along now.’ I mean, it was just a bizarre and I think a really badly timed effort. So we have to see how he answers some of these very specific questions.”
