Justin Trudeau Gets Cheered on The Late Show With Medical Tourism Jab: ‘It Would Be Easier if You Guys Had Universal Healthcare’

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau raised cheers and applause from The Late Show audience after suggesting that it would be “easier” for American citizens to get the drugs they need if they had “universal healthcare.”

The jab came as host Stephen Colbert discussed the “differences” between the “values” of his nation and the United States.

Colbert pointed out that Canada was the United States’ “closest ally” and asked the leader what the pair “fight over”: “Is it soft lumber tariffs?”

Trudeau laughed, responding cautiously at first: “Yeah. These are issues, but there are always small issues that matter. I mean, you guys are paying too much for your lumber because you have tariffs on them. And that does not make any sense. We keep trying to point that out for you.”

“We will keep working on that,” he added as the audience laughed.

The host continued: “We come up to you guys to get cheaper drugs. We come over the border for cheaper drugs, are you guys okay with that?”

Trudeau replied: “We are happy to try and help you out, but it would be really easier if you guys had universal health care.”

The audience cheered excitedly before the host pivoted to the debate over what Canadians call “bacon.”
