Joe Rogan Says He’s ‘Disgusted’ by Justin Trudeau’s View on Guns For Personal Protection

Joe Rogan spared no words when discussing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s recent comments on guns and self defense rights.

On last Tuesday’s episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, he sat down with activist and self proclaimed gun enthusiast Colion Noir. Recent comments from Trudeau quickly became the topic of conversation.

“You see what Trudeau said today?” Rogan asked referencing the prime minister’s June appearance on the podcast, Pod Save the World.

“Did you see, he — I’ll send it to you, Jamie? Cuz it is fucking wild,” he continued, talking with longtime producer Jamie Vernon.

“He said you don’t have the right in Canada to own a gun to protect your life. It is one of the most wild things I’ve ever seen anybody say, because first of all, I don’t believe it’s true. I don’t believe he is correct in terms of what — what do they have up there? They don’t have a constitution. It’s not the same, whatever it is.”

“Well they’re under the rule of the Queen theoretical, technically speaking,” Noir added.

“Fuck. Someone sent it to me and I don’t know if I saved it cause I was so disgusted. I think I might have like just fucking threw my hands up in the air, but there’s a whole Twitter thread about it that someone had sent to me,” Rogan said. “I can’t find it at the moment, but essentially what he was saying was that that is not what’s in the — whatever they have up there. That it says you have the right to own a gun for hunting and for shooting sports, you do not have the right to own a gun for self-preservation and to preserve lives. But apparently that’s not even true.”

“Even if it was true. You have to think about what type of leader you’re under, who can open his mouth and say something like that as his justification for doing what he’s doing as far as gun controls,” Noir said.

The clip referenced was taken from Trudeau’s appearance on Pod Save the World earlier this month.

Trudeau did in fact state that “you can’t use a gun for self- protection in Canada.”

During the June 8th podcast, he said, “There are debates and we have a culture where the difference is guns can be used for hunting or for sport shooting in Canada. And there’s lots of gun owners and they’re mostly law respecting and law abiding, but you can’t use a gun for self-protection in Canada.”

He continued, “That’s not a right that you have in the constitution or anywhere else. If you try and buy a gun and say, it’s for self protection, no, you don’t get that. You get it for hunting. You can get it for sport shooting, take it to the range. Uh, no problem. As long as you go through our rigorous background checks, but there’s a difference around the culture.”

According to the Canadian Firearms Act, under section 5.1, a Canadian citizen is prohibited from gaining a license with the intention to protect themselves or someone else.

Section 5.1: “A person is not eligible to hold a license if it is desirable, in the interests of the safety of that or any other person, that the person not possess a firearm, a cross-bow, a prohibited weapon, a restricted weapon, a prohibited device, ammunition or prohibited ammunition.”
