Jon Stewart Rips NYC Mayor Eric Adams for Reversing His ‘Bring Us Your Tired’ Position on Migrants: ‘It Took Two Bus Loads of Venezuleans!’
Daily Show host Jon Stewart ripped New York City Mayor Eric Adams for reversing his liberal position on migrants, Monday, mocking that the change of heart only took “two bus loads of Venezuelans.”
During a segment on the crisis at the southern border, Stewart declared, “You can’t scare the Democrats because the one thing that the Democrats have [is] principles. When it comes to immigration, the Democrats hold to our country’s cherished ideals. The eternal promise etched at the feet of Lady Liberty that speaks to our better angels.”
Stewart then played a clip of Adams telling an audience “This is a place where the Statue of Liberty sits in the harbor and we said, ‘Bring us your tired, those who are yearning to be free.'”
The Daily Show host continued, “Unshakeable, bedrock American values of compassion and empathy, and there is not a damn thing that you can do to change that.”
Airing news coverage of busses full of migrants turning up in New York City, Stewart mocked, “That’s all you got?… You are never gonna change our values because you’re afraid, so keep sending those busloads because we’ve got plenty of room in our hearts and in this city.”
Stewart then played a series of clips of Adams declaring, “We have no more room in this city,” and warning that migrants could “destroy New York City.”
“What about the yearnings and the tiredness and the tiredness of those who are doing the yearning?” questioned Stewart. “Yes, it turns out in the age-old battle between values and fear, values never had a f*cking chance!”
Transforming a photo of the Statue of Liberty into a statue wielding a rifle, he concluded, “It took two bus loads of Venezuelans to go from this to this.”
