Daily Show Finds Biden’s ‘Biggest and Only Superfan’ After Talking to Not-So-Excited Dems: ‘I Mean, He’s Okay’
Daily Show correspondent Troy Iwata found the “biggest and only superfan” of President Joe Biden after hitting the streets and talking to some less-than-excited Democrats.
“Not so excited,” one voter told Iwata about her enthusiasm for supporting Biden in November’s presidential election.
“I mean, he’s okay,” another voter said, managing to cite Biden’s love of ice cream as a positive aspect to the president.
“I wish I was more excited,” another voter said, adding he’s at a “two or three” on a scale of one to 10 for his enthusiasm for backing Biden.
Trump has led Biden in critical swing states in recent polls from Bloomberg/Morning Consult and The New York Times/Siena College. An AP-NORC survey released in December found a majority dissatisfied with Biden being the Democratic Party’s nominee. A CNN poll released last month also found Biden with a 39% approval rating.
Iwata found Biden’s superfan in Dakota Galban, who explained that part of his loyalty to the president can be chalked up to the fact that Biden was just publicly supporting marriage equality when Galban came out to his family.
“This man literally came out of retirement to save our country from white supremacists and fascism,” he said after showing off cardboard cutouts of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris that he keeps in his car.
On why voters are unenthused, Galban argued Biden doesn’t check the right boxes.
“He’s an older, straight, white gentleman and in Democratic circles, that’s usually not what gets us excited,” he said.
“I guess one thing that’s good about Biden is he doesn’t have the baggage that, say, Hillary [Clinton] has,” Iwata offered.
“You know, I love Hillary,” Galban said.
A frustrated Iwata then deadpanned the camera.
“Come on!” he said.
