Jon Stewart believes Donald Trump is “obviously” right about the system being rigged, but he’s completely wrong about the “remedy.”

Stewart joined comedian Tom Segura for the latest episode of the 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast, and he touched on a number of subjects including the former president following his conviction on more than 30 felony counts. Stewart said Trump’s numerous references outside his Manhattan courthouse to the system being “rigged” were correct, but he didn’t have the details right.

“Part of his appeal was the system is rigged, and I think everything he’s experienced through here is an example of that, just not necessarily the way he thinks. I think it’s showing if you got money, doesn’t matter how many felony counts they throw at you, you can hold that off until you get granted complete immunity by becoming president of the United States,” Stewart said.

The Daily Show host also referenced Trump being ordered to pay more than $350 million in February in a civil case where he was accused of inflating the values of his properties, something Stewart argued is also treated as business-as-usual.

“Somebody can be right about a diagnosis and wrong about the remedy. So he can diagnose the system as rigged, and it obviously is… the interesting thing is once that gets exposed, a reformer comes in and says, I’m going to straighten this out and make it fairer,” Stewart said.

He argued against Trump, saying the former president is not looking to reform a system he views as “rigged,” but rather control it.

His argument, according to Stewart, boils down to, “if you don’t mind signing that deed over to me, I’ll take care of it.”

He further argued change in Washington D.C. is near impossible due to the amount of lobbyists, noting he saw more defense lobbyists than members of Congress when he was in D.C. pushing for healthcare for veterans facing issues due to exposure to tar pits and other chemicals while serving overseas.

Stewart recalled that at one point during a meeting with a bipartisan group of lawmakers, they asked him to write then legislation for them, something he gathered was common practice.

“I was like, ‘uh, I could write a 10-minute bit about the legislation about — they don’t know the first thing about writing [legislation], but in that moment I thought, oh, that’s how this shit happens,” he said.
