Daily Show Roasts Biden’s ‘Big Boy’ Press Conference’: ‘Sounds Like He’s Going to Show Everyone He Can Tie His Own Shoes’

The Daily Show’s Desi Lydic roasted President Joe Biden’s team for talking up his “big boy press conference” on Thursday evening.

Lydic joked on Wednesday that Biden’s poll numbers amid calls for him to drop from the race are “hovering somewhere between uh oh and oh shit,” and the way the White House is planning to address this is with a press conference where he can show he’s in charge of all of his “faculties.”

“Unfortunately, their branding isn’t helping,” Lydic said.

A montage of clips about the “big boy press conference” then played, including White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre referring to it as such.

“Oh my God, stop saying big boy press conference!” Lydic said. “It sounds like he’s going to show everyone that he can tie his own shoes…although at this point it would be reassuring to see him do that.”

Jordan Klepper segued out of the segment by joking some Democrats aren’t worried about whether the president can make it through his “big boy press conference” without a “binky.”

Calls for Biden to suspend his reelection campaign have increased in recent days with Democratic donor George Clooney penning an op-ed calling for a replacement (just weeks after holding a fundraiser), and multiple Democratic lawmakers backing a plan for a fresh candidate.

Since last month’s CNN debate with Donald Trump, Biden has insisted he’s staying in the race and he’s the best option to defeat Trump in November. In a post-debate Morning Joe interview by phone, the president raged against the “elites” of his party and pushed them to challenge him at the convention.

“I’m getting so frustrated by the elites… the elites in the party,” Biden said. “Run against me. Go ahead, announce for president. Challenge me at the convention.”

Biden’s press conference is set for 6:30 ET.
