Joe Scarborough Slams Trump’s ‘Grotesque Fawning’ Over Adolf Hitler — Blasts WSJ ‘Fascist Meme’ Opinion

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough slammed former President Donald Trump’s “grotesque fawning” over Nazi German dictator Adolf Hitler and skewered the Wall Street Journal’s “sneering” critique of the “fascist meme” in the wake of bombshell claims by his ex-chief of staff that he praised the fascist leader.

The New York Times released audio on Tuesday of Ret. Gen. John Kelly, who served as Trump’s chief of staff, claiming to the Times that Trump told him previously that Germany’s former dictator “did some good things.” The Trump campaign denied the claims as “debunked.”

On Wednesday morning, however, Scarborough went after Trump over the claims, saying that Kelly’s allegations were consistent with what was already known.

Over the past eight years Donald Trump praising one autocrat after another. We’ve seen him praise [China’s] President Xi. We have seen him praising [Russia’s] President [Vladimir] Putin. We’ve seen him praising [North Korean dictator] Kim Jong-un, talking about love letters. And now we hear about this praise for Hitler, from again, Donald Trump’s longest-serving chief of staff. And talking about Hitler’s generals.

The host then referenced an old news story about how Trump kept a book of Hitler’s speeches beside his bed.

And by the way, 26 years before Donald Trump ran, Vanity Fair had an article in 1990, 26 years, so this is politics aside. No politics. In 1990, Ivana Trump talked to her lawyer about how Donald Trump would keep speeches of hitler by his bedside. And would read them.

He continued, attacking Republicans for continuing to defend their nominee.

Again, it just fits a pattern. And you would think, though, that at some point there would be one thing… and Hitler seems would be a pretty good line in the sand to draw that Republicans wouldn’t reflexively defend him…

Again, the grotesque fawning and rationalizing for a man who is promising in his words to be an autocrat. I’m sorry. It’s really just hard to grasp. Promising everyday to arrest his political opponents with the military. Again, it’s hard to grasp and yet Republicans continue to go along for the ride.

Pivoting to the Wall Street Journal, whose editorial board published an opinion piece on Monday mocking liberals for reviving the “fascist meme” against Trump, Scarborough called for “kowtowing” to the former president.

So many have grown up and are now kowtowing to Donald Trump. The Wall Street Journal just two days ago mock what they called, quote, “the fascist meme” and they mocked it after Donald Trump has been promising for days to use the National Guard and the military and kept calling [Speaker Emerita] Nancy Pelosi and [Democratic Senator for California] Adam Schiff the “enemies from within.”

The fascist meme, two days after saying that, a general who served as Donald Trump’s longest-serving chief of staff, said yes. He’s a fascist. Wall Street Journal opinion page might want to revisit this sneer… This is more than an election to see who the next president is. This is an election to determine the future fate of what form of government we have and if Madisonian democracy survives.

“This is not a meme,” Scarborough concluded, as co-host Mika Brzezinski echoed back: “This is not a meme.”
