Morning Joe Warns Biden Campaign ‘They Need to Be Worried About’ Voters Abandoning Biden Over Israel

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough warned President Joe Biden’s campaign they need to be “concerned” about the 100,000-plus voters who went “uncommitted” in Tuesday’s Michigan primary.

In a breakdown of Michigan’s primary numbers on Morning Joe, MSNBC’s Jonathan Lemire noted that Michigan voters have a history of voting “uncommitted” to send a message on certain issues to their party and candidates, but he also contrasted the 20,000-plus who did so in the 2012 primary when Barack Obama won to the more than 100,000 who did so on Tuesday when Biden was running as the incumbent.

With the state likely to be “razor thin” in the general election, Lemire argued the Biden campaign needs to focus on bringing many of these voters “home” as the larger problem could be Democrats abstaining from voting or going third party.

“They need to be worried about it,” Scarborough said. “They obviously need to be concerned about it.”

The former said voters sent a “message” on Biden’s support for Israel amid the tens of thousands of civilian casualties caused by their strikes in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed that he will not stop until Hamas is eliminated, following the terror group’s Oct. 7 attack where more than 1,000 were killed and hundreds kidnapped.

Scarborough acknowledged the Biden camp has the benefit of time as voters sent their message during a primary rather than the general.

“They also though need to service these voters and stay in front of these voters between now and then. Again, it’s eight, nine months — a very long time in politics. A lifetime in politics,” he said.

Activists pushed for Michigan voters to cast “uncommitted” ballots as a protest of Biden’s backing of Israel in the Israel-Hamas war, pushing the president to push harder for a full ceasefire. Michigan has one of the largest Muslim and Arab American populations in the country. The president has said his administration has pushed for less civilian casualties, but he’s backed Israel’s right to defend itself.

On Wednesday, Scarborough said the Biden camp also needs to be concerned about young voters who are “breaking away from Israel.”

“Across America, young voters are breaking dramatically against Israel and what Israel is doing and, again, a generational shift that will haunt Israel, I think, for a for decades to come if they don’t get right [and] figure out a better way to execute this war,” he said.
