Jon Stewart Mocks Media’s Critique of Kamala Harris Policy ‘Specifics’ With Comparison to Trump: ‘What the Actual F*ck?!’
The Daily Show host Jon Stewart took sharp aim at the media for an apparent double standard in demanding “policy specifics” from Vice President Kamala Harris but not holding former President Donald Trump to the same standard.
At the opening of Tuesday night’s show, Stewart ran clips of CNN’s This Morning host Kasie Hunt describing criticism of Harris for being “relatively vague in her policy proposals,” then commentator S.E. Cupp blasting the vice president as lacking “specifics” on policy before a clip of pollster Frank Luntz on Harris, arguing that “the public demands a detailed plan of action.”
Launching into his monologue, Stewart mocked the talking heads for being out of touch with what voters really want: “We demand that!”
He continued: “If there is one thing that the American public demands, it is a detailed plan of… Oh, the Golden Bachelorette.”
As the audience laughed he rounded back on his point: “Anyway, back to the point. The point is Harris speaks gibberish because she is part Indian, part Black, and part gibber. If Kamala Harris dissolves into gibberish every time she’s asked for specific policies, then I dare say she will not earn my completely irrelevant New Jersey vote.”
Stewart then ran a supercut of Harris outlining policy specifics.
“Excuse me, but as Americans, we demanded a detailed plan of action, not random numbers,” he joked.
“You have left the door wide open lady,” he said, adding with irony that surely Trump offered more in the way of policy detail than Harris.
Pulling out a comically exaggerated prop chart with axes measuring time against policy specifics and black sharpie, a favorite of the former president, Stewart then ran back clips of Trump. As he ran back clips of Trump failing to answer policy questions he unsubtly replaced the chart with another, marking time against “Huh?”, struggling to mark up the chart as more clips rolled.
Stewart then highlighted an interview in which Trump, when asked how he would tackle inflation, launched into an off-topic tirade about his political opponents.
“The question, sir, was, ‘How are you going to bring down inflation?’ Your answer so far has been, ‘Huh?'” the host jabbed.
In one clip, as Trump noted he planned on “doing things” with IVF policy, Stewart switched up his chart once again, this time the axes reading “What The Actual F*ck Are You Talking About?”
“So, clearly, what people like about Donald Trump is not his clear, specific policies as they demand from Kamala Harris,” the host quipped.
