James Carville Pulls a ‘We Told You So’ After Saying He Was ‘Certain’ Harris Would Win
Democratic strategist James Carville ripped Democratic strategists for the party’s poor showing in an election that he said Vice President Kamala Harris would win.
“America, it will all be OK,” Carville wrote in an op-ed for The New York Times published on Oct. 23. “Ms. Harris will be elected the next president of the United States.” He noted that Democratic candidates over-performed in the 2022 midterms and special elections in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to abortion.
“See 2018: the largest House landslide for Democrats in a midterm election since Watergate,” he added. “See 2020: He was decisively bucked from the White House by Joe Biden. See 2022: an embarrassment of a midterm for Republicans off the heels of Dobbs.”
This week, however, the strategist is singing a much different tune after Harris lost to President-elect Donald Trump and Democrats lost the Senate while failing to retake the House. Carville joined Politicon to trash Democratic consultants.
“What you’ve done ain’t worth a shit,” he said. “Get your head around that. And all of the Washington-based Democrats farting around, going to wine and cheese parties, and talking about how misogynistic the race is—get your ass out of Washington, and go work on a 2026 campaign and do penance to make up for your goddamn arrogance and stupidity.”
Carville then pivoted to “identity shit,” which he claimed cost Democrats.
“We’re going to say we told you so,” he said. “We told you this identity shit was a disaster. We told you to get out in front of public safety issues. You didn’t.”
He also criticized the slogan “defund the police.”
Carville did not identify specific candidates who allegedly ran on “identity politics” or “defund the police.” Indeed, as Jon Stewart pointed out on Monday’s edition of The Daily Show, Harris and Democratic congressional candidates ran to the center on issues such as immigration and foreign policy.
“I only have one problem with the ‘woke’ theory,” Stewart said after playing a montage of pundits blaming Democrats’ losses on “woke.” “I just didn’t recall seeing any Democrats running on woke shit.”
Stewart added, “They acted like Republicans for the last four months.”
