Gabriel Noronha, a former State Department special adviser on Iran who served during the Trump administration, was ridiculed on Thursday after he mistook the Washington Post’s Christmas lights for the Palestinian flag.

“On the last night of Hanukkah, the Washington Post building appears to be lit up in the colors of the Palestinian flag,” protested Noronha on social media, attached to a photo of the newspaper’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. lit up in the colors of Christmas — red and green.

Social media users were quick to point out that the lights are a holiday display, as it is just two weeks before Christmas.

“These are Christmas lights,” reacted HuffPost senior editor Philip Lewis, while conservative author Matt Palumbo tweeted, “Bro it’s for Christmas.”

Daily Beast columnist Wajahat Ali and Daily Wire editor Brent Scher also pointed out that the lights were for Christmas, while others took the opportunity to poke fun at Noronha with pictures of Santa Claus and the parody slogan, “From the river to the North Pole.”

The Washington Post has previously lit up its headquarters in the exact same color arrangement for Christmas, as shown in photos from 2016.

Last month, another Trump administration Middle East expert, Jason Greenblatt, attacked two airline employees on social media after he mistook their plane-patterned airline scarves for traditional Palestinian keffiyeh.

Greenblatt deleted his post after experiencing heavy backlash and ridicule.
