Whoopi Goldberg Has To Give View Audience Permission To Applaud Hillary Clinton Praising Melania Trump: ‘You Can Give Her That’

The View’s Whoopi Goldberg told her audience it was okay to applaud for Melania Trump as Hillary Clinton was offering praise to her fellow First Lady.

Clinton joined The View on Thursday to promote her new book Something Lost, Something Gained, and in it she describes the connection between women who have served in the First Lady role in the White House, including Melania Trump.

Clinton recalled attending Rosalynn Carter’s funeral last year with Jill Biden, Michelle Obama, and Laura Bush. She said she was surprised to see Melania Trump when she got there.

“I think it was a little scary. I say she looks like the kid on the outside of the birthday party, like, am I going to be accepted? Do I belong here?” Clinton said about seeing Melania Trump.

Clinton said they quickly embraced Melania Trump, but when she offered praise for her making the trip to Atlanta for the funeral, faint applause quickly came and went.

Clinton said:

When we landed in Atlanta, we got into the motorcade to go to the church where the memorial service was to be held and we walked into the basement of the church where all the dignitaries being were being rounded up and I saw Laura Bush, who is just absolutely delightful, talking with Melania Trump and none of us knew that she was going to be there.

And, you know, Michelle and Jill Biden and I were, like, wow, nobody told us, but immediately, you know, all of our training, our good manners, everybody immediately went up and Michelle gave her one of her hugs and even Jill, you know, said how glad she was to see her and I said hello to her, and I white about how I thought it was a very positive thing for her to show up.

Goldberg turned to the audience after the mysteriously snuffed applause and said it was just fine to applaud for Melania Trump.

“You can give her that,” she said as the audience clapped. “You can give her that.”
