UNLV quarterback Matthew Sluka announced that he’ll be forgoing the rest of his season after the program allegedly failed to fulfill NIL commitments.

Late Tuesday night, Sluka posted a statement on social media claiming “certain representations” were “not upheld.”

“I have decided to utilize my redshirt year and will not be playing in any additional games this season,” Sluka said. “I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled. Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program.”

Other sources familiar with the matter, however, have told a different version of events. According to CBS Sports reporter Carl Reed Jr., a source claimed all financial commitments were “completely met.”

“But after wins against KU and Houston,” Reed continued, “Sluka’s family hired an agent and they collectively feel that his market value has increased.”

As noted in ESPN’s report, the senior led UNLV to its first 3-0 start since 1984. He’s passed for a total of 318 yards and six touchdowns this season.

The year before — as the quarterback at Holy Cross — he set a Division I record for a QB with 330 rushing yards in a single game.
