JUST IN: Bill Belichick OUT as New England Patriots Head Coach After 24 Seasons, Per ESPN Report

Multiple reports indicate that Bill Belichick’s run as coach of the New England Patriots is coming to an end after 24 seasons.

ESPN reported that Belichick met with Patriots owner Robert Kraft in recent days to hash out the details for Belichick’s departure, and league sources say that the discussions are happening on amicable terms. Despite the 4-13 season Belichick had in 2023, his time as head coach has been broadly successful since he’s walking away with six Super Bowl victories and an overall record of 266 wins to 121 losses.

From ESPN:

Both Belichick and Kraft, as one outside party noted, “took the high road,” which was appropriate for an owner-coach tandem that will go down as one of the greatest and most decorated in NFL history.

Belichick, who had one year remaining on his contract, will be allowed to leave the team without the Patriots seeking compensation. He will want to continue coaching and is expected to draw interest from at least some of the other seven NFL teams that have head-coaching vacancies, quite possibly the Atlanta Falcons, league sources said.
