Fox’s Trace Gallagher Blasts CNN For ‘Censoring’ Trump After Tapper Does ‘Truth Sandwich’ Pre-Emptive Fact Check
Fox News host Trace Gallagher on Friday lit into CNN over a pre-emptive fact check delivered by anchor Jake Tapper prior to Donald Trump’s response to the defamation trial verdict was read aloud on air.
After the verdict on Friday in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case, Trump, who had stormed out of the courtroom early, issued his furious response in a post to Truth Social sent reportedly while aboard his private jet.
CNN prefaced Trump’s response by saying it would contain lies, then corrected the statement while reading it, and then concluded by repeating that Trump had told two lies in his response, in what Tapper called a “truth sandwich.”
Gallagher brought up that elaborate fact check on Fox News at Night in his Common Sense segment.
“When the former president issued a statement about the verdict, CNN, to borrow a phrase, stop the presses. Because, remember, Donald Trump is such a danger to democracy that now all of his speeches and statements need to be fact checked before his evil words can reach your untarnished ears,” said Gallagher. “And prior to Trump’s comments being read, CNN’s audience was told the statement would likely be false.”
“Apparently, things are no longer true until CNN says they’re true,” he said. “Clearly, that policy was not in place during Russian collusion, Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation or the case of the Covington Catholic Kids because back then, any smear was fair game.”
The segment at issue took place shortly after the verdict, when anchor and correspondent Kaitlan Collins joined Tapper with the news of Trump’s response on Truth Social. Before Collins got to the quotes, Tapper first offered a preamble.
“Before Kaitlin reads the statement from Donald Trump that he just posted on Truth Social, let us introduce to our audience the concept of a truth sandwich,” said Tapper. “Which is when we know something false is about to be said, we will tell you the truth, then we’ll give you the statement from the politician who’s lying, and then we will remind you of the truth again.”
Tapper then said Trump would lie about Joe Biden and about the First Amendment before Collins read aloud from Trump’s post to Truth. Collins also said that Trump was lying while she was reading the statement, and then when she’d read the Truth Social post, Tapper returned to the camera to say it yet another time.
Watch:
Gallagher brought up CNN’s fact-checking of Biden overall, usually under the purview of Daniel Dale, and wondered when Biden might “also stumble upon the CNN fact check police.”
“He’s the man who said he never talked business with his son. Sorry, sorry, wait. Was never involved in business with his son? No, sorry, wait – never financially involved in business with his son,” said Gallagher. “If the media refused to air political speeches and comments without preemptive fact checks, political coverage would die in darkness.”
“Common sense knows this is not about CNN seeking the truth, but it is all about CNN censoring Trump,” he concluded.
GALLAGHER: Well the Fox News At Night common sense department was watching today’s coverage of a New York jury deciding that Donald Trump should pay $83 million for defamation. And when the former president issued a statement about the verdict, CNN, to borrow a phrase, stop the presses.

Common sense wonders if Joe Biden will also stumble upon the CNN fact check police. He’s the man who said he never talked business with his son. Sorry, sorry, wait.
