‘Ain’t Never Gonna Happen’: Karl Rove Throws Cold Water on Bill Maher’s ‘Unity Ticket’
Fox News contributor Karl Rove dismissed Bill Maher’s admittedly “crazy” suggestion that President Joe Biden should replace Vice President Kamala Harris on the Democratic presidential ticket with Republican Nikki Haley.
During Friday’s Real Time on HBO, Maher called a Biden-Haley “unity ticket” his “dream.”
“I know it’s crazy to think that she could run with Biden,” Maher said during Friday’s Real Time on HBO. “But that’s my dream, a unity ticket. And then he would, I think, definitely win.”
Puck’s Tara Palmeri noted that booting Harris off the ticket in favor of a Republican would likely fracture the Democratic base.
Appearing on Monday’s installment of The Story on Fox News, Rove was asked by guest host Trace Gallagher for his thoughts.
“Do you think Nikki Haley’s future in the Republican Party is that damaged?” Gallagher asked, alluding to Haley’s ill-fated challenge to former President Donald Trump for the GOP nomination. “And what about a unity ticket?”
Rove blew past the first question, but was unequivocal on the second.
“Well, Bill Maher’s got an innovative mind, but the Democrats are never going to get rid of Kamala Harris,” he said. “And they’re never going to put Nikki Haley, a conservative, on the ticket. So, Bill, nice thinking. But this ain’t ever going to happen and Nikki Haley would be the first to say, ‘I’m not gonna do it.'”
Given that Biden is 81, Haley’s presence on such a ticket would take center stage, particularly considering she supports a national abortion ban and a host of other Republican policies that cut against the Democratic agenda.
Maher has said Biden should drop out of the race altogether, telling Mediaite last week, “If Biden drops out, [Democrats] will win.”
