‘I Do Mean It, Actually’: Trump Town Hall Crowd Loudly Boos As He Wishes Kamala Harris Happy Birthday
The audience at a town hall with Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on Sunday engaged in a round of booing as he mentioned that his Democratic opponent Vice President Kamala Harris is celebrating her 60th birthday, prompting the former president to elaborate on his sincerity.
Trump spoke with audience members at a campaign town hall event in Lancaster, PA on Sunday afternoon, a critical state for both candidates that is one of the top battlegrounds.
The first question for Trump was from a man introduced as Bob, who said he’s a retired union worker from Hazelton, PA. Bob asked about Social Security, telling Trump he is on a fixed income and that “many Americans in my position struggle to make ends meet,” and asked if Trump will protect benefits.
Trump said that he would and then, as he was talking about President Joe Biden and VP Harris he brought up her birthday.
“By the way, it’s her 60th birthday, so I want to wish her a happy 60th birthday,” he said as the crowd broke into boos. “Right? No?”
“No, happy birthday and many more, and I mean it,” Trump said. While the crowd did not seem to join him in wishing it, he added, “So, you know. I do mean it, actually.”
BOB: My name is Bob. I’m a retired union worker from Hazleton on a fixed income. Many Americans in my position struggle to make ends meet. Will you commit to helping protect Social Security and Medicare benefits?
TRUMP: A great question. The answer is yes. And you know, when you say fixed income because of Biden and Kamala — Nobody knows her as Harris. You know, I can’t use the word Harris. And by the way, it’s her 60th birthday, so I want to wish her a happy 60th birthday. Right? No? No, happy birthday and many more. And I mean it. So you know I do mean it, actually.
