‘What You’re Saying Is Horsecrap!’ CNN’s Jim Acosta And Georgia GOP Chair Brawl Over Election Denial
A fiery segment featuring CNN’s Jim Acosta and Georgia Republican Party Chairman Josh McKoon on Thursday culminated with Acosta calling McKoon’s claims “horsecrap” and accusing him of “lying” live on air.
During an extended debate over the results of the 2020 election, which Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and various supporters have erroneously claimed Trump won, Acosta repeatedly pressed McKoon over whether he would accept the results of the 2024 election.
After playing a clip of Trump asking Georgia’s Republican secretary of state to “find” the number of votes he would need to surpass Joe Biden four years ago, McKoon insisted that Trump was only referring to “allegations that were made about people that were allowed to vote that should not have been allowed to vote under Georgia law,” which caused Acosta to insist that “that’s not what happened.”
The pair sparred over what Trump meant in the clip before the anchor eventually brought the conversation back around to 2024 and asked McKoon if Trump should “honor the results” if he “comes up short” again.
“Should he [Trump] be calling up the secretary of state and trying to strong arm the secretary of state, or just honor it this time around?” he asked.
“Look, I don’t think that anyone-, and I would say this if it was the Democrats on the short end of the stick. If you’re within the margin in Georgia for an automatic recount, asking questions, reasonable questions about the election, and making sure that you’re able to confirm that the election result is correct, that is part of our law here in Georgia. You are allowed to contest an election. You’re allowed to ask for a recount,” replied McKoon before asserting that he believes Trump will win handily in Georgia this November.
Acosta rephrased his question then to ask McKoon if he would personally accept the results if Trump loses Georgia.
“Look, I think this is a much more secure election than 2020,” shot back McKoon. “We don’t have ballot dropboxes scattered randomly all over the state. We don’t have election officials-,”
At that point, Acosta interjected to express his frustration.
“You’re making suggestions that that there was some kind of tomfoolery and shenanigans going on last time around. Your party’s own secretary of state said that that was not the case and that it was a free and fair election and that it was secure,” pointed out Acosta. “I’m just saying. Josh, what you’re saying is horsecrap!”
The pair continued to brawl, with Acosta accusing McKoon of “just lying,” before the conversation devolved into a debate over whether the chairman had been invited on Acosta’s show under “false pretenses.”
