California Democrat Goes Off on Trump’s RFK Jr Pick: ‘Literally a Tinfoil Hat Conspiracy Theorist!’
Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), who sat on the House Covid Oversight Committee, ranted Friday that Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination to head the Department of Health and Human Services was “irresponsible, shameful, and disgusting.”
President-elect Donald Trump announced Kennedy as his pick Thursday, drawing swift outrage over his anti-vaccine and conspiratorial views.
“Of all of the horrible picks, there probably couldn’t be a worse one for the country and for families than this one,” Garcia said when CNN anchor Jim Acosta asked what Kennedy could mean for Americans in a future pandemic. Garcia continued:
You’re talking about a person who is literally a tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist. This is a person who, by the way, has said that you can’t actually prove that vaccines are actually effective. This is somebody who has said that fluoride in water causes people to turn trans or turn gay. This is someone that has continued to attack basic scientists and doctors, who wants to gut the NIH and fire the employees. The NIH — those are America’s scientists and doctors who are doing research to prevent pandemics, to prevent the spread of diseases.
His actions, as we all know, have already actually caused measles epidemics in other parts of the world. And we’re going to put this person in charge of our health? We just went through the single largest loss of life event, the pandemic, just a couple of years ago. And now Donald Trump wants to put a vaccine skeptic — vaccines, by the way, that saved millions of lives around the world — in charge of our health system? I can’t tell you how irresponsible, shameful, and disgusting this pick is, and it is something we should come to expect from Donald Trump but one we must furiously oppose.
“I think it’s a sad time for our country,” Garcia added.
