Margaret Brennan Confronts House Republican Comparing Trump’s Handling of Classified Docs to Biden’s

CBS News anchor Margaret Brennan threw a wrench into Congressman Mike Turner’s (R-OH) claims that President Joe Biden not being charged in his classified documents case would prove the Justice Department’s political bias.

Turner joined Brennan on Sunday’s Face the Nation — where she brought up the reports that Special Counsel Robert Hur will not seek charges after investigating the president’s handling of sensitive materials at multiple locations. Since Turner chairs the House Intelligence Committee, Brennan asked him “what do you think the signal will be to the national security world” if no charges are brought forward.

Turner’s response:

This will be certainly devastating, and continue to be devastating to the Department of Justice and to the Biden administration with their two-tiered system of justice.

Biden has been found to be a serial classified document hoarder over a ten-year period. He’s been taking classified documents — some of the sensitive that threaten our national security — home without any protection, and certainly able for others to be able to access them. There needs to be consequences.

The fact that Hillary Clinton, who had over 100 classified documents home when she was secretary of state and Vice President biden, both under Obama at the same time, were taking classified documents home and certainly had them be vulnerable, with no consequences, shows the Department of Justice is not pursuing Democrats.

Ever since the emergence of Biden’s documents scandal, Donald Trump and his Republican allies have complained repeatedly — claiming the DOJ is corrupt and weaponized against Republicans. Of course, there’s a number of key distinctions between the document cases involving Trump and Biden. Brennan pointed out one of those distinctions to the congressman.

“There is a difference with the case against President Trump, who refused to hand over documents fully and violated the Espionage Act,” Brennan said. “That’s the charge against him, because he didn’t work with the government to hand those over.”

Turner stuck to his argument that Biden “spent ten years as a serial classified document hoarder,” so “it doesn’t count” that he cooperated with the government and gave them back after his team found them.
