‘Abominable Pick!’ Chris Christie Trashes Trump for Nominating Matt Gaetz as AG
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) slammed President-elect Donald Trump for “over-reading” his mandate by nominating Matt Gaetz as attorney general.
Earlier this month, Trump made Gaetz his pick to lead the Department of Justice — despite an open House Ethics Committee Investigation into him over allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor. Last week, Gaetz withdrew his nomination — reportedly after Trump told the former lawmaker that he did not have the votes to make it through the Senate confirmation.
During a Sunday morning interview on ABC’s This Week, Christie told anchor Jon Karl that Gaetz was an “abominable pick” by Trump after praising the president-elect other cabinet nominees.
CHRISTIE: There’s a number of these nominees that are actually quite good. Doug Burgum, I’ve known him for a long time. He will do a really solid job.
KARL: Current governor of-
CHRISTIE: -North Dakota. And I worked with Doug for a long time. He’ll do he’ll do a really solid job there. I think Brooke Rollins will do a really good job at agriculture. She’s very bright woman.
KARL: Scott Bessent?
CHRISIE: I don’t know Bessent and so I don’t want to say. But certainly he’s great. Certainly, he’s a mainstream type of choice. He’s a Wall Street guy who’s being put in by by a Republican president. So part of this, Sean, too, is that there’s an over there’s too much hysteria about all of them. And I think that’s going to be a mistake for the country. You know, focus Matt Gates was was an abominable pick and it was Donald Trump overreading his mandate. Well, he got smacked back. So we’ll see what happens.
