CNN’s Manu Raju Asks McConnell If He Will Confront The ‘Bad Blood’ Between Him and Trump
CNN’s chief congressional correspondent Manu Raju asked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) if he would try and clear the “bad blood” between himself and Donald Trump following the January 6th Capitol attack.
McConnell is set to meet with Trump, the party’s presumptive presidential nominee, for the first time since he left office back in January 2021. Following the Capitol attack by Trump’s supporters, McConnell publicly condemned Trump and demanded the party move on from him.
However, Trump’s dominating victory in the GOP primary led to McConnell taming his outward criticism toward the former president. Back in March, McConnell officially endorsed Trump for the presidency after blaming him for the “disgraceful” riots at the Capitol less than three years ago.
Trump has also launched vicious attacks on McConnell and his wife, who Trump referred to as “Coco Chow” in childish insults. McConnell is married to former Trump Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, who later asked the media to stop repeating Trump’s “racist taunts” directed at her.
Raju asked McConnell during a Wednesday press conference if he plans on confronting Trump over the Capitol attack:
RAJU: You haven’t spoken to Trump since December 2020 from what we understand. Do you plan to confront any of the bad blood between the two of you, or any of the issues you had, including over January 6th?
MCCONNELL: You know, I said three years ago, right after the Capitol was attacked, that I would support our nominee regardless of who it was, including him. I’ve said earlier this year, I support him. He’s earned the nomination by the voters all across the country. And of course, I’ll be at the meeting tomorrow.
