Bill Maher Blasts ‘Conspiracy’ to Bury Hunter Biden Laptop, Tells Liberal Guest to Watch More Than MSNBC
Real Time host Bill Maher found himself recommending his guest Rob Reiner consume more than just MSNBC as the two verbally tussled over the Hunter Biden laptop story.
When discussing the topic on Friday’s show, Maher accused the media and others of participating in a “conspiracy” to bury the explosive New York Post story in an effort to not affect the presidential election in a positive way for Donald Trump.
“Is it okay to have a conspiracy to get rid of Trump?” Maher asked guests Reiner and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN).
While the Biden laptop story was largely met with skepticism by Trump critics when it first broke, numerous outlets have since confirmed the authenticity of materials from the laptop, including the New York Times.
“Now look, let’s not pussyfoot around this; he was selling the influence of his father, Joe Biden. I mean, most political sons do, but let’s not pretend at least that was going on… so Hunter Biden’s laptop was buried by the press. Even the head of Twitter Jack Dorsey said that was a mistake,” Maher said.
The comedian asked if such actions are justified if it’s to get rid of someone “as bad as Trump.”
“It’s a little bit of a thorny question because once you go down this road- this is sort of where we are in this country, the other side is so evil, anything is justified in preventing them from taking office. Is it?” he said.
Reiner, a liberal activist and filmmaker behind films like Stand By Me, skipped the question to blast his favorite punching bag, Trump.
“You know what’s not justified? Using armed violence to try to kill people in the Capitol. That’s not justified,” he said.
The two then engaged in a back and forth where Reiner pushed back on the notion that the story was buried in any way.
“They buried the Hunter Biden story before the election because they were, like, ‘We can’t risk having the election thrown to Trump. We’ll tell them after the election,'” Maher argued.
“And we know for a fact that that’s what they did?” Reiner responded.
“Of course! You don’t follow this?” Maher asked, shocked.
“I don’t know that they did,” Reiner said.
“I know because you only watch MSNBC,” Maher fired back, to which the filmmaker claimed Fox is also part of his media diet.
Hunter Biden’s laptop is receiving fresh interest thanks to an interview Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg gave on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast in which he revealed the FBI reached out to Facebook ahead of the 2020 presidential election, warning about “Russian propaganda.” Zuckerberg said the Biden laptop story was seen by far less than would have otherwise seen it.
“But we weren’t, sort of, as black and white about it as Twitter. We just kind of thought hey look, if the FBI, which I still view is a legitimate institution in this country, it’s a very professional law enforcement- they come to us and tell us that we need to be on guard about something then I want to take that seriously,” he said.
