House Dem EXPLODES on Jim Jordan in Committee Hearing: ‘I Didn’t Vote to Overturn an Election! And I Will Not Be Lectured By People Who Did!’
Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) went off on Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) during the House oversight committee hearing on Wednesday, accusing him of “gaslighting” and railing at him for voting to overturn an election.
The hearing, held by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, aimed to question Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and Postal Service Board of Governors Chairman Robert Duncan regarding changes at the postal service under their leadership and amid the 2020 election.
Jordan began by asking DeJoy if he had people protesting outside of his house last night, which DeJoy confirmed he did not, and later asked who specifically has called for his resignation.
After DeJoy noted that President Joe Biden and Moloney, who is the Chairwoman of the committee, have not called for him to step down, Jordan called out Connolly for doing so.
Jordan went on to point out that DeJoy had protesters outside of his house last summer, implying that things have calmed down since the Biden administration took over, as Democrats were solely looking to denounce the system while Donald Trump was president.
“What’s different between February 24, 2021 and August 24, 2020. What happened in those six months?” Jordan added. “What could explain the Democrats difference in attitude.”
DeJoy noted he did not want to “participate” in what Jordan was implying, but later guessed that it was either anxiety revolving his new strategic plan, or the 2020 election.
Jordan continued to push DeJoy, asking if he agreed that it was “all about the election.”
“All the gaslighting that we just heard does not change facts,” Connolly shot back following Jordan’s remarks, later directly addressing Mark Dimondstein, the head of the American Postal Workers Union.
“Am I making this up as Mr. Jordan apparently would have you believe: That the president of the United States last summer, Donald J. Trump, publicly said voting by mail would lead to massive fraud,” Connolly asked Dimondstein. “Did I say that or am I imagining it?
Dimondstein noted that he was not imagining that, adding that Trump also specifically said that the postal service could not get Covid-19 relief.
“The point is, it was Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, that was planting the idea, aided and abetted by disruptive changes proposed by a new postmaster general and a compliant board of governors that actually eroded the public confidence in the ability to vote by mail,” Connolly said in response.
“I didn’t vote to overturn an election!” Connolly exclaimed after announcing that he is a proud Democrat. “And I will not be lectured by people who did!”
Rep. James Comer (R-KY) later hit back at Connolly, noting that he did not object to the presidential election, and accused top Democrats of voting to overturn the 2004 election.
“I just wanted to state for the record, Mr. Connolly pointed over about voting to object in the election. I’ve never, ranking member, I’ve never voted to object to a presidential election,” Comer said. “But I’ll tell you who has, Nancy Pelosi in 2004.”
Connolly cut in to note that he did not name anyone who he claimed voted to overturn an election, adding that it was not his intention to include Comer if he truly did not vote that way.
