Rep. Cori Bush Confronts Postmaster General DeJoy: Do You Think It’s a Problem That the Post Office is a ‘Millionaire White Boys’ Club?’
Representative Cori Bush (D-MO) confronted Postmaster General Louis DeJoy at a House subcomittee hearing — asking the head of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) why his board of governors looks like “a millionaire white boys’ club.”
DeJoy and his colleagues sat for a hearing before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday — during which Bush inquired as to whether any people of color are currently sitting on the USPS board.
After being told the board is entirely comprised of white men, Bush decried the “grotesque lack of representation” before turning to DeJoy and asking “Do you see it as a problem that the Board of Governors of the United States Postal Service looks like a millionaire white boys’ club?”
“The Postal Service’s not having a full board is not enabling it to reach its full breadth of impact, and I welcome that” DeJoy answered. He continued by saying that vacancies of the board are a matter between the executive branch and Congress.
“The Postal Service would love to have a diverse board that reflects its population,” he said. “But this is not something within our power.”
