Fox News Host Runs with False Claim About Biden-Trump Debate: ’One Less Obstacle to Worry About for Biden’

CNN denied on Monday that its upcoming debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump would be seated after Fox News host Jeanine Pirro ran with the false claim on The Five.

“The whole idea that, you know, they’re out there saying this election is not about age, Joe and the other guy are about the same age, even for the debate is– as Jesse is saying, they’re gonna be seated,” said Pirro on the show. “We don’t even get to see them walk in. They’ll be seated so that, you know, there is one less obstacle to worry about for Biden.”

CNN debunked the claim in a statement to Mediaite on Monday and confirmed that both Biden and Trump will be standing.

“CNN’s proposed format was to have both candidates stand and both sides agreed to the rules when they agreed to debate,” stated a network spokesperson.

Pirro’s false claim appeared to originate with the conservative Washington Reporter, which claimed in a viral social media post – citing two unnamed sources – that the Biden campaign was “trying to renegotiate the debate rules to allow Biden to be seated.”

CNN denied the claim and told Forbes the report was “not accurate.”

The first presidential debate is scheduled to take place in Atlanta on June 27 and will be the first between Trump and Biden in 2024.

According to CNN, “Microphones will be muted throughout the debate except for the candidate whose turn it is to speak. While no props or pre-written notes will be allowed on the stage, candidates will be given a pen, a pad of paper and a bottle of water.”

There will be no live audience.
