Jessica Tarlov Reminds Co-Hosts of ‘Shut Up and Dribble’ After Republicans Boost Athletes Supporting Trump

The Five co-host Jessica Tarlov reminded her Fox News colleagues of Laura Ingraham’s infamous “shut up and dribble” remark on Monday after they celebrated a series of clips of athletes imitating President-elect Donald Trump’s iconic dance.

After Tarlov’s co-hosts on The Five boosted a compilation of clips that showed NFL players and UFC star Jon Jones performing Trump’s viral dance, Tarlov said:

So, I guess we’ve gotten to the portion of the Trump era where we have moved past, “Shut up and dribble,” and now it is fantastic for athletes to be talking about their politics or expressing their politics, because that was one of the critical points when Colin Kaepernick was kneeling, when LeBron James was speaking out.

And I get it, Donald Trump wants to take a victory lap, and he won, and he should, and I think that liberals are doing the right thing and they are thinking about how his coalition was formed, what part of our coalition was lost in order for him to make that win. But I don’t think that kind of bragging that the people who don’t consume the news are the ones that are winning in this, because that is dangerous.

Tarlov’s dig was a reference to Ingraham’s controversial 2018 monologue, during which she told LeBron James to “shut up and dribble” after he criticized Trump.

“It’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball,” she said. “Keep the political comments to yourselves.”

Ingraham received heavy backlash over the comment, including from several NFL and NBA stars, who suggested there were “racial undertones” to the Fox News host’s words.

Ingraham shot back at the suggestion, denying her remarks had anything “to do with race.”

Hours after The Five aired, Ingraham hosted former wrestler Hulk Hogan and former NFL quarterback Brett Favre on her show, where they spoke out in support of Trump.
