Trump Spox Forced to Punt When Asked On Newsmax About Trump’s Bogus Helicopter Claim: He ‘Has A Lot of Amazing Stories’
Newsmax anchor Shaun Kraisman pushed Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt on Friday morning over a roundly debunked story the former president told on Thursday during a lengthy and unwieldy press conference.
“Talking about misrepresentation. I’m curious to know, as the former president gave a press briefing yesterday and in that one hour, he claimed that he went down in a helicopter with the former San Francisco mayor, Willie Brown,” Kraisman began, adding:
And now he’s been interviewed about it, and he denies ever being in a helicopter with Willie Brown. Can you shed any light on that?
“I would just refer you to President Trump’s statement and what he said yesterday. The president has a lot of amazing stories from his life. As we all know, he was a businessman and a celebrity for decades prior to entering politics, and I am just going to leave it at that,” Leavitt replied with a smile.
“All right. Karoline Leavitt joining us from the campaign, Karoline, thank you,” replied the anchors wrapping the interview.
New York Times political reporter Maggie Haberman fact-checked Trump’s odd claim, noting, “Trump’s story about being in a rough helicopter landing with Willie Brown was actually with [former California Governor] Jerry Brown, and there was no rough landing. Everything about the story was false, both men said.”
Willie Brown responded to Trump’s story, saying, “You know me well enough to know that if I almost went down in a helicopter with anybody, you would have heard about it!”
