Anti-Weed Newsmax Host Reacts to Ohio Voters Legalizing It: ‘Yikes – the Marijuana Thing’
Newsmax host and prominent weed critic Greg Kelly reacted to the news that Ohio voters had elected to legalize marijuana on Tuesday with a big sigh.
Following a report on the Ohio vote to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution, Newsmax national correspondent Alana Austin added, “Also on the ballot in Ohio, state legalization of recreational marijuana. Results are still coming in there, but that one could also pass tonight if things continue trending in that direction.”
Austin reported that while “supporters said that they hoped that it would mean that folks with various medical conditions had easier access to marijuana and alleviating their pain,” opponents were “concerned this could be bad for workplaces, for employers, and also for folks that are worried about what the safety on the roads could be,” as well as “children potentially accessing marijuana” more easily than before.
Kelly responded, “I’ve got a computer right here, Alana, and it looks like the marijuana thing passed, and so did the abortion— enshrining abortion rights. Yikes – the marijuana thing, we have just unthinkingly as a country embraced that.”
As he let out a sigh, Kelly continued, “Wow. Alright. More on that as the night goes forward.”
Kelly is a prominent critic of marijuana who made headlines in 2021 after he warned social media users not to smoke marijuana with an anecdote from his youth.
“SMOKING WEED (aka GRASS) is NOT a good idea. I’ve tried it (back in the day) and it was WORSE than anything that happened to HUNTER BIDEN,” claimed Kelly. “I ‘toked up’ with some buddies in Kentucky and woke up 4 days later in Nairobi, Kenya. With no idea what happened. DON’T DO DRUGS.”
Kelly also protested the normalization of marijuana during a Newsmax segment in 2020, when he ranted, “It was illegal. Had to meet up with some shady people to get it. You were vaguely worried about the cops. Smoking it had to be done pretty much in secret. Not like now. Legalized in some states, decriminalized in most, normalized everywhere. Seems like it’s everyone’s favorite thing. It’s literally in the air.”
