Newsmax’s Greg Kelly Slams Taylor Swift ‘Idolatry’ Because ‘If You Look It Up in the Bible, It’s a Sin!’

Newsmax host Greg Kelly joined conservatives’ Taylor Swift dog pile on Monday night, saying it’s wrong to “idolize” the pop star because “it’s a sin.”

Swift is back in the news because she attended the AFC Championship game in Baltimore where she watched her boyfriend Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs down the Ravens 17-10 to punch their ticket to the Super Bowl.

The Swift/Kelce story arc has drawn the ire of some conservatives – particularly the Very Online ones – because Swift is a successful young woman who endorsed Joe Biden in 2020 and because Kelce is a pitchman for Pfizer and Covid-19 vaccines.

On Monday’s Greg Kelly Reports, the host said while he enjoys some of Swift’s songs, he doesn’t care for “hardcore Taylor Swift fans.” He then showed a still image of her on stage in concert:

They are totally over the top worshiping this woman. Have you seen any of the pictures of her in concert? I wouldn’t go myself. I don’t do that kind of thing anymore. But I think what they call it is, they’re elevating her to an idol.

Idolatry. This is a little bit of what idolatry, I think, looks like. And you’re not supposed to do that. In fact, if you look it up in the Bible, it’s a sin! So, I don’t like that. And I’m also over this new boyfriend.

Kelly went on to say he thinks their relationship is a “publicity stunt” before echoing a theory that the Biden campaign is building up the couple ahead of an endorsement in the presidential election.

“And she is going to use all of this popularity, potentially, against MAGA and for Democrats. She’s got a record of this stuff, a track record,” he said before airing a clip of Swift endorsing Biden in 2020.

“If he doesn’t win, at least I tried,” Swift said in the video.

“So, some people think this is a massive psy-op. They’re gonna build her up and build up Kelce as well. Build them up, build them up, build them up, and then at the moment of truth, they’re going to endorse Biden.”

Kelly cited a New York Times article that reported “Biden aides are drafting wish lists of potential surrogates, including elected officials, social media influencers and the endorsement of their wildest dreams: the global superstar Taylor Swift.”
