CNBC’s Joe Kernen Calls Out Trump for Canceling Interview, Invites Kamala Harris to Show Him Up

Joe Kernen, the Squawk Box co-host and CNBC personality who often comes to the defense of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, called out the former president on Tuesday morning for canceling a scheduled appearance on the show.

During a discussion with businessman Charles Phillips — who is close to Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris — Kernen mused that Phillips “should talk her [Harris] into coming on” his show.

After being asked if he would be “nice to her,” Kernen took his shot at Trump and invited Harris to show him up.

“Well, Trump canceled and he was going to come on. So, and I said, when you come on, we’ll be able to say you came — and I didn’t talk to him personally — but I said we’ve offered the vice president and she’s not coming on, but now he’s canceled,” he explained. “So now she could come on and we could say we offered it to the Trump camp, but they’re not.”

Kernen’s revelation comes amidst a media blitz for Harris, who had previously been running one of the more risk-averse presidential campaigns in modern history. On Monday, it was announced that Harris would be sitting down with Fox News’ Bret Baier for what it widely expected to be a challenging interview that will see her questioned on a number of different issues.

Trump has not accepted a similar request for a sit-down from Baier, who he has previously derided for being too tough on him.

“When I did the interview with Bret, I thought it was fine. I thought it was okay, but there was nothing friendly about it. You know, it was nasty,” said Trump after an interview with Baier in 2023.

The former president nevertheless reacted to the news by suggesting that Harris had “wisely chosen” Baier because he’s “very soft to those on the ‘cocktail circuit’ Left.”

“Fox has grown so weak and soft on the Democrats, constantly polluting the airwaves with unopposed Kamala Representatives,” he complained.
