CNN Anchor Grills Democratic Lawmaker Over Trump’s Controversial Cabinet Picks: ‘Didn’t America Vote For This?’

CNN anchor John Berman grilled Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) over President-elect Donald Trump’s recent controversial cabinet nominations on Friday,

Since defeating Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump has started nominating controversial allies to fill important cabinet position, including former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) as attorney general and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as secretary of health and human services.

Moreover, Trump has floated the idea of using recess appointments to push through nominees that will likely face significant resistance during their Senate confirmation process.

Spanberger claimed it was “outrageous” that these essential departments will be led “by individuals with with no requisite or relevant background.”

BERMAN: But I guess my point is, didn’t America vote for this? Isn’t this what people — they saw it. They voted for it.

SPANBERGER: You know, from my perspective, it is shocking. It is not surprising. But I think the American people and certainly the people I represent are good people, are people who are focused on their families, are focused on their concerns in and around our communities. They want their kids to be safe in school. They want to be able to afford their prescriptions at the pharmacy counter. They worry about retirement. They worry about being able to buy a home. And so there is so much conversation about what Americans did or didn’t vote for. And certainly I supported Vice President Harris in her candidacy and recognized that a President Trump would again be a danger to our country. But I think that we for so long have taken for granted the reality that when a president comes in, they appoint people who are experienced.
