Jon Stewart blasted the “credibility” of Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski and said their recent visit to Mar-a-Lago shows the “performative nature” of media and politics.

On the latest episode of The Weekly Show, released Thursday, Stewart answered some questions from listeners and one asked about whether Stewart believes “late night hosts” critical of President-elect Donald Trump will face “retribution” and whether he himself had plans to head down to Florida and “kiss the ring.”

“I’m not going down there right now, obviously my membership to the club is pending,” Stewart joked.

The Daily Show host mocked Scarborough and Brzezinski’s explanations for their Trump visit following their hard sell to viewers that Trump was a “Hitler-Mussolini cocktail” that will destroy everything you love. Scarborough claimed the trip was part of a “new approach” in their coverage of Trump.

“Joe and Mika going down there might be my favorite — when they had to

go out there and go, ‘and so we did.’ Like, they spent the year going, ‘this man will destroy all that you hold dear, he is a Hitler-Mussolini cocktail mix and we must all stand.’ Literally one week later they’re like, ‘so we go and we have lunch, a light lunch. I get the watercress salad and you know Joey,'” Stewart said.

He joked at one point that the MSNBC hosts don’t live far from Trump’s Florida property so perhaps they were just being “neighborly.”

“I don’t even know that it’s access as much as it’s like, ‘you’re the king and we serve at the pleasure — like, please hold me in graces so that I too am allowed,'” Stewart said.

The comedian winced when referring to Scarborough and Brzezinski’s “credibility.”

“I thought that was one of the more remarkable — but it shows the performative nature of so much of all of this shit, which is, again, when you talk about credibility,” he said, cringing at the thought.

On late night hosts facing retribution, Stewart predicted there will “probably” be some, both “subtle” and “explicit.” Trump has openly feuded with late night hosts like Jimmy Kimmel in the past.

“Listen, these guys are not shy about ‘there will be retribution for

people,’ so I’m just going to take them at their word. I assume something,” he said.
