MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart Admits He’s ‘Kind Of Conflicted’ Over Trump Nominee Who’d Be ‘Highest-Ranking Out LGBT’ Cabinet Member Ever
MSNBC anchor Jonathan Capehart said he was “conflicted” over whether he liked President-elect Donald Trump’s new nominee to lead the Treasury Department.
Recently, Trump name Scott Bessent, a hedge fund manager, to Treasury Secretary in his incoming administration. Bessent, a former George Soros money handler, is openly gay with a husband and has two children. Capehart is also openly gay and married to his husband Nick Schmit.
Capehart told his guest during his Sunday evening show that he was “kind of conflicted” on Trump’s decision to pick Bessent because if he would be the highest ranking out LGBT” member told a cabinet position. The MSNBC anchor has been critical of Trump recent nominees and the president-elect domestic and foreign policy.
So yesterday morning my Nick says, “Wait, Scott Bessent is gay. He is and married and has children.” Yesterday when I brought this up, you know he is if confirmed, would be the highest ranking out LGBT person ever to serve — to be appointed and confirmed by the United States Senate. And I said, you know, kind of conflicted about it…I’m kinda conflicted about this.
