‘Dumba**!’ Jake Paul Goes OFF on Reporter for Asking Him to Take ‘Legitimate’ Fights
YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul called out a reporter on Wednesday for asking him about taking “legitimate” fights in the future.
Paul, 27, is set to take on 58-year-old boxing legend Mike Tyson in a formally sanctioned bout at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Friday. At a Wednesday press conference, Dallas reporter Jacob Detamore posed a question about Paul’s future in the sport.
“Jake, you were just talking about your career and how it’s grown,” Detamore said, “and you’ve said in the past that you want to be taken seriously as a boxer; so if that is your goal, when can we expect you to start legitimate contending fighters in your given weight class?”
Paul immediately recognized Detamore from a previous event and proceeded to tell him off.
“I think you’re the same dumbass from the other event,” Paul said. “You asked that same dumbass question.”
Detamore confirmed it was him, adding, “I am that same guy, and you didn’t answer the first time.”
“And you’re sitting here disrespecting Mike Tyson to his face once again,” Paul continued. “Do you not think that he’s a serious boxer?”
That criticism has followed Paul throughout his professional career. Heading into Friday’s fight, Paul sports a record of 10-1 with seven knockouts. A significant portion of his wins, however, have come from MMA fighters well past their prime. His lone loss came at the hands of fellow professional boxer Tommy Fury.
