Jake Paul won Friday night’s much-anticipated bout against boxing legend Mike Tyson in Arlington, Texas.
The fight went every second of its eight, two-minute rounds with the judges calling Paul the victor. ESPN reported:
The judges scored the bout 80-72, 79-73, 79-73 for Paul.
Tyson, 58, tried to push the pace in the opening round, but Paul’s youth and speed advantages quickly became evident as he peppered the former heavyweight champion with shots from a distance and Tyson’s activity level started to wane.
Tyson never appeared to be in trouble, but Paul controlled the fight with his steady volume and cleaner, more effective punches. Paul outlanded Tyson 78-18.
Tyson, 58, came out with fury in the second round after a slow start, but Paul, 27, adjusted. At the end of the final round, Paul bowed to Tyson in an apparent show of respect.
The two were originally scheduled to fight at AT&T Stadium on July 20, but the match was rescheduled due to an ulcer flare-up reported by the former heavyweight champion.
The two appeared ready to square off a day earlier when Paul stepped on Tyson’s toe, and the latter responded with a slap to the face.
“I was in my socks, and he had on shoes,” Tyson said. “He stepped on my toe because he is a fucking asshole. I wanted to think it happened by accident. But now I think it may have happened on purpose.”
Paul later said of his much older rival, “He hits like a bitch… He must die.”
Friday’s stream was accompanied by scores of Netflix subscribers fuming about issues viewing the match.
